COVID-19 Phase One Update!
Happy Days Are Here Again! Well, Almost…
As Washington County has entered Phase 1 of reopening, Oregon DHS has also given us permission to start loosening the restrictions in our community as long as we can maintain the COVID-19 prevention guidelines and stay COVID-19 virus free.
This past week, we started to offer in-person exercise classes. The class sizes have been limited to 9 per class and the participants need to wear their face masks and also sit 6-feet apart from each other.
In the upcoming weeks, we will be adding additional in-person activities including Sunny Sky News, Sing-A-Longs, and others. We will continue to add content to channel 981 and by popular demand, continue to show some of the current programming, including the exercise classes.
Next Wednesday, we will officially reopen the dining rooms for all three meals. As with restaurants, we need to maintain the 6-foot social distancing rule. For us, this means one person per table. The only exception is if you are a couple that lives together. I did contact the state to see if there was any wiggle room with the 6-foot rule. They said “NO.”
We have a total of 40 tables. In order to accommodate everyone, the dining schedule has been broken down to specific time slots for residents to eat in the dining rooms. We will still call a day in advance to get your next day’s food orders. At that time, we will also ask you if you’d like to eat in the dining room or have your meal delivered to your apartment
It is not a perfect solution but it is a step in the right direction. We will send out a full outline of how the dining service will work on Monday, June 8.
We have also received approval to reopen the Beauty Salon! Linda has been busy sanitizing and getting all the supplies they need to reopen. The Beauty Salon will also have special protocols. Only one stylist and one resident will be allowed in the salon at a time. Similar to when you leave and come back to Hearthstone, each resident will need to check-in with the stylist and have their temperature taken and fill out a questionnaire. Also, residents will need to wear their face mask to and from the salon.
I am excited about the prospect of getting back to “normal.” There is a sense of optimism and hope as we start to open things up. However, I believe this is also the most dangerous phase of the reopening process and it is imperative that everyone follows the COVID-19 safety protocols of wearing a face mask, social distancing, and proper hygiene.
A big part of our success at keeping the COVID-19 virus out of our community has been due to our diligence in following these safety protocols. Now is not the time to let down our guard; if we do, and we get a COVID-19 case in our community, we are back to total quarantine and nobody wants that.
Thank you for all the sacrifices you have made to ensure that Hearthstone’s residents, staff, families, and friends have remained healthy and protected. We will continue to communicate updates and changes to you as we successfully respond to this challenge together.
