For Family & Friends
When an aging parent starts to need extra help, it can be stressful for everyone in the family. Having a family meeting allows you to talk honestly about the issues, come up with a solution, and agree on each person’s contribution.
Making A Smooth Move
Moving into a new community is a big change, especially if your parent has lived in his or her home for many years. Here’s how you can help:
- Help Set Up The Apartment To create a sense of comfort and familiarity, bring photos and furniture from your parent’s previous home. Ask which items he or she wants to bring along, and share personal stories that center around those possessions.
- Maintain Regular Contact Visiting often, talking on the phone, and connecting with Hearthstone staff members provides peace of mind for both you and your parent.
- Support Your Parent’s Independence Encourage your parent to take part in meals and the many social events
at Hearthstone. Try not to become overprotective, as this can keep your loved one from successfully adapting to life in this new community.
Just like you, our goal at Hearthstone Senior Living is to ensure that your parent is safe, well-cared for, and happily engaged in his or her new home and community. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
