Memory Care at Anna’s Place
A specially designed memory care community is available on the Hearthstone at Murrayhill campus for those whose memory loss — caused by Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia — has reached a stage where they require a higher level of support and a smaller, more secure living environment.
Anna’s Place has 32 private apartments grouped into three areas (Lily House, Rose House, and Iris House). The three areas are interconnected, under one roof, and accessible by all memory care residents, staff and visitors. There is a secure, well designed courtyard with manicured gardens, a raised garden bed, sensory filled plants, and an operational electric train that offers residents an intriguing and vital connection to the outdoors.
All exterior doors in Anna’s Place are secure. Staff and visitors have easy access and egress by entering a simple code at each entrance door. This system provides important security for residents who may become disoriented outside their normal living environment.
Managers and staff at Anna’s Place are trained and selected for their ability to create a loving, respectful and person-directed home environment for our residents. Anna’s Place has its own full-time administrator who is responsible for all aspects of operations, and its own full-time registered nurse who oversees and manages memory care health services. Medication aides and caregivers provide around-the-clock services and support.
Two life enrichment staff plan and engage our memory care residents in daily activities — both individual and group — seven days a week. Our staff ensures that daily activities are both stimulating and meaningful to our residents. And Hearthstone’s chaplain offers church services, Bible study, and other spiritual programming based on individual preferences.
We understand that food and mealtime is a very important part of everyone’s life. That’s why Anna’s Place residents receive a home-style dining experience similar to that offered to our independent and assisted living residents. They are served by the same chef and kitchen staff and have a wide variety of healthy options available to them. For memory care residents who require a soft or pureed diet, our chef takes great pride in presenting special diets in an appetizing way.
As with all Hearthstone residents, those living in our memory care community choose when to eat and what to eat. Breakfast is always made-to-order when the resident is ready to eat. Each midday and evening meal includes a freshly made soup, a plated green salad or fresh fruit, a choice of two daily specials, and a choice of dessert or ice cream. To keep things simple, each resident is offered plated options of the two daily specials and, if those options are not appealing, staff will communicate with the resident to ascertain what they would prefer to eat.
