Meet Our Managers
Hearthstone at Murrayhill
Executive Director and Independent Living Administrator. Tom has served as Hearthstone’s executive director since the very beginning — actually, a year before we opened our doors to receive our earliest residents in 2002. This makes Tom the first of many Hearthstone “originals.” He is a visionary strategist who is committed to maintaining a beautiful and inviting environment for our community. Tom’s serious business acumen is complimented by his fun-loving spirit, which he developed during his many years in hotel resort management.
Assisted Living Administrator. Pamela has been with Hearthstone since 2007. She oversees the daily operations of Hearthstone’s independent and assisted living communities. As a former RN, Pamela developed a strong sense of compassion for people and a desire to make a difference in their well-being. One of her goals is to encourage strong interpersonal relationships among residents and staff, which in turn furthers our mission “to serve with love, respect and integrity.” When senior living residents have a need, Pamela is an excellent problem-solver.
Memory Care Administrator. Nena manages all aspects of Hearthstone’s Anna’s Place memory care community, and has been with us since 2008. She has decades of experience serving seniors and their families as they cope with the challenges of memory loss. Nena’s passion for person-directed care ensures a respectful, home-like atmosphere for those we serve.
Brigita Nikolov, RN
Health Services Director. Brigita has been Hearthstone at Murrayhill’s health services director since 2004. Her nursing career started in cardio-vascular surgery, after which she transitioned to long-term care to focus on a lifelong passion for seniors. Bridget is responsible for hiring, training and supervising all Hearthstone nurses, medication aides and caregivers so they can provide the highest quality of care to residents in our Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care communities. Brigita’s focused efficiency is matched by her loving attention to our residents.
Pati Kirby, LPN
Anna’s Place Registered Nurse. Pati comes to us with about 6 years of nursing experience as an LPN. She spent her first 4 years in a skilled rehab facility and then 2 years in home health. She is currently pursuing her RN degree. Prior to becoming a nurse Pati was in medical sales for a short time, and before that she spent 7 years as a stay at home mom while getting her undergraduate degree in Communication Studies. She was a night student at Arizona State University and was the first college graduate of her family! Although she grew up in Arizona, after 12 years here, she considers herself to be an Oregonian! In her spare time, Pati love to read, explore new restaurants and she recently took up golf!
Jamie Carrabine, LPN
Community Nurse. Jamie coordinates the care planning for Hearthstone at Murrayhill’s Independent Living residents, and has held this position since 2009. She also handles the day-to-day communications with family members, health care providers and pharmacies. Jamie’s responsiveness ensures prompt attention to the important details of each resident’s care.
Community Relations Director. Penny was hired in 2006 to lead Hearthstone’s community relations department. In this position Penny is responsible for marketing the community to the public, guiding families as they contemplate future living options, and organizing events that promote family involvement. Most recently Penny’s work has evolved to include helping residents to explore and pursue activities that are personally fulfilling to them–for example, organizing a 20+ choral group (The Murrayhill Singers). Penny’s enthusiastic spirit serves as inspiration to Hearthstone residents who are eager to live life to the fullest.
Community Relations Manager. Debbie has been managing the daily operations of Hearthstone’s community relations team, which includes reception and resident relations staff, since 2009. She provides guidance and support to seniors who are considering making Hearthstone their new home, and counsels family members and others who are researching living options for their loved ones. She has a strong commitment to understanding the needs of individuals and their families, and explaining options available to them. Debbie’s relaxed demeanor and compassionate heart help her excel at building strong and lasting relationships.
Chef & Director of Food Services. Rebecca joined Hearthstone at Murrayhill in April 2015 as the Dining Room Supervisor, and when our Chef of 13 years retired, Rebecca was ready, willing and able to take on the responsibilities of Chef. She is a graduate of Oregon Culinary Institute, at which she obtained degrees in both culinary management as well as baking and pastry management, and is a certified chocolatier through Ecole Chocolat. Rebecca’s leadership skills and rapport with the kitchen staff and servers makes her a strong role model for employees who really do serve Hearthstone’s residents and guests with love, respect and integrity each and every day.
Dining Room Supervisor.
Life Enrichment & Wellness Manager. Shirley is another one of Hearthstone’s “originals,” having been with Hearthstone at Murrayhill since it first opened in 2002. Shirley and her amazing team of five are responsible for bringing a wealth of stimulating and engaging activities to our residents — both on and off campus. They focus on enhancing the residents’ social, physical and cognitive experiences at Hearthstone. Shirley is committed to seeking input from our residents throughout the year, and fine-tuning the activity calendar to make sure residents remain active and engaged in activities that are important to them.
Chaplain. Chaplain Dave, an ordained minister, comes to Hearthstone after serving for many years on the pastoral staff at Cedar Mill Bible Church in Portland. Dave brings a depth of spiritual programming to Hearthstone, including Sunday services, Bible study, personal visitations, and meaningful “Celebration of Life” memorial services. He is also available for counseling, transitional support, end-of-life comfort, as well as personal visits when desired. Dave’s warm smile, easy laugh, and compassionate spirit shows just how much he loves serving the Hearthstone community.
Human Resources. Lynn is a native Oregonian, and has been with Hearthstone at Murrayhill since February 2015. She has more than 25 years of human resources experience working in high-powered corporate settings–including Federal Express, Washington Mutual, and Nike. Given this background, it is not surprising that Lynn finds Hearthstone’s privately owned, family-centered environment to be an especially fulfilling place to work. She values her daily interactions with residents and staff, and feels honored to work in a setting that applies the principles of love, respect and integrity to employees as well as residents.
Bookkeeper. Myrna joined the Hearthstone team in January, 2013 — bringing over 30 years of accounting experience to her position as Bookkeeper. She is responsible for billing, recording receipts, issuing payments and processing payroll. Myrna is extremely organized, pays attention to detail, and ensures accuracy in all of her recordkeeping. As much as she loves working with numbers, Myrna especially enjoys her day-to-day interactions with Hearthstone residents, families and staff.
Facilities Director. Since 2005 Glenn has been managing a team of skilled workers who perform a wide range of maintenance tasks in Hearthstone at Murrayhill’s 110,000 square foot building. He oversees apartment turnovers and upgrades, painting, carpet cleaning, equipment maintenance and repair, as well as resident requests for apartment maintenance. Glenn seeks bids from outside contractors, then schedules and oversees their work to make sure all building systems and equipment are properly maintained. Hearthstone’s priorities are community safety, resident comfort, and maintaining the building and grounds in “ship-shape” condition so residents feel proud to call Hearthstone their home.
Housekeeping Supervisor. Rocio began her Hearthstone career in February 2014, when she was hired as a caregiver in Anna’s Place enhanced care community. Fourteen months later Rocio was promoted to housekeeping supervisor, which was a natural fit because for many years she managed her own cleaning business. Rocio’s responsibilities include hiring, training, and supervising a staff of five full-time housekeepers. She not only ensures that 183 apartments are cleaned each week, but also makes certain that seasonal and “deep cleans” are done on schedule, and the community as a whole is looking its best at all times. Rocio is quick to share that Hearthstone is “an amazing place to work,” and that this is the best job she’s ever had!
