Our Story: A Family-Owned Retirement Community
Hearthstone Senior Living Communities, located in Beaverton, Oregon, are largely owned and managed by a local family with years of experience in serving seniors and long-term care. Hearthstone founders Walter and Helen Friesen and their adult children have a heart for seniors and a commitment to excellence.
The Friesens first built Hearthstone of Beaverton, an assisted living community with 58 apartments, in 1996. It was their desire to create a warm and welcoming home for seniors that was better than what their own grandmother experienced. Walter’s mother, Anna, had lived her last years in an Altenheim (Home for the Aged) that did not provide the freedom of choice, respect and dignity that every person deserves.
Inspired by the satisfaction and happiness of residents and their families at Hearthstone of Beaverton, the Friesens expanded their vision when they, along with some private investors, developed and opened a much larger community — Hearthstone at Murrayhill — in 2002. With 183 apartments on a large campus setting, Hearthstone at Murrayhill offers multiple levels of living, including independent living, assisted living, and memory care.
The Friesen family is committed to providing retirement living that is more like home — and, in some respects, even better than home. By offering great food, a beautiful environment, and a healthy atmosphere of love, respect and integrity, Hearthstone Senior Living communities are places you can feel good about calling home.
